Printed on one side only, the map employs elevation contours to show the form of the land.  Color tints show surface management status, i.e. the managing government agencies of public lands.  Distinguishes Forest Service, National Park Service, and BLM ownership (with a darker tint showing Wilderness Areas), Indian Lands or Reservations, Military Reservations, State lands, and Bankhead-Jones Land Use lands; private lands are untinted.  Shows rivers, creeks, washes, springs, wells, and tanks (stock ponds).  Township and section lines are marked.  Roads of all classes are depicted (with US and state highways and Forest Service roads numbered).  Shows major power lines, pipelines, mines, windmills, campgrounds, picnic areas, landing strips and more.  (See sample below.)

Cities, towns, and settlements on the map include Cochise, Willcox, Kansas Settlement, Dos Cabezas, Bowie, San Simon, and Vanar.  The area includes parts of Coronado National Forest, Chiricahua National Monument, Fort Bowie National Historic Site, Willcox Dry Lake Bombing Range, Dos Cabezas Mountains Wilderness, and Peloncillo Mountains Wilderness.  Major highways through the region are Interstate 10, US 191, state 186, state 181, US 191, and US 80.  Most of the area is within Arizona's Cochise County, with Graham County across most of the top.  The right-hand strip of New Mexico is in Hidalgo County.

Major physical features are Winchester Mountains, Sulphur Springs Valley, Willcox Playa, Dragoon Mountains, Pinaleno Mountains, Dos Cabezas Mountains, Chiricahua Mountains, Fisher Hills, San Simon River and Valley, and Peloncillo Mountains.
