USGS Geology of the Solar System
This colorful chart is arranged exactly like Mapping the Solar System below, but instead of showing natural color, it shows each type of rock in different colors, as is the practice in earthbound geological maps. The reverse side gives abundant details, photographs and references.
Notice how in the image, the smaller planets such as Venus at lower left, are shown three times, each giving a view of a different portion of the planet.

Size: about 27 x 33 inches.  Rolled.  Paper. U.S. Geological Survey, 1997.  New.
Item # USGS-28779.  Shipping weight: 1.5 lbs.  Publisher's price: $7.00.  Your price: $7.00

USGS Mapping the Solar System
" To commemorate completion of the first reconnaissance mapping of the solar system." The image at right shows the whole poster, at less than ideal exposure—but you get the idea. The planets are shown in in true relative size, along with their moons (which are usually enlarged relative to the planets). Each are drawn with as much detail as is available from recent NASA flyby missions, an impressive amount of detail in most cases.

The reverse side gives much additional detail.

The sample shown at right shows you Mercury and Venus, with a bit of the Earth in the corner.  Because of the thick cloud cover on Venus, the image you see is based on radar scans of the surface.

National Geographic Mars Revealed
Based on a mosaic of about 1000 images taken by the Mars Orbiter Camera since 1999, the red planet is here mapped in sharp detail.  It shows, among other things, ancient canyons believed to have been carved by flowing water at some remote time, and the current ice caps.  (See image at left.) The reverse side is more of an educational poster, with multiple images and diagrams depicting aspects of the geography of Mars, accompanied by text which explains the features.  (Image at right).

Size: about 31 x 20 inches.  Rolled.  Paper.
National Geographic Maps, 2001.  New.
Item #NG-622075.  Shipping weight: 1.0 lb.  Publisher's price: $14.99.  Your price: $13.50

Planispheres

The Miller Planisphere
Large, Latitude 30 degrees north
Planispheres are a wonderful way to learn the major stars and constellations. They are a plastic disc with a rotating cover. The cover has a window which, when set at the proper time and day, shows you exactly which stars are visible (assuming clear skies, it's night, and you aren't inside a building). Includes information on where to find the planets through the next few years. All three models I sell are useful for the Northern Hemisphere, but will be more accurate if you buy the model designed for your latitude. 30 degrees north is best for the southern portion of the US, south of Santa Barbara, Prescott, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Little Rock, Chattanooga, Greenville, and Fayetteville.

Datalizer, 2005.  10½ inches in diameter, comes with plastic pouch.  New.

Item #953-30.  Shipping weight: 0.7 lb. Your price: $12.00   (Out of stock)
The Miller Planisphere
Large, Latitude 40 degrees north
This is the best model for the area north of the cities listed above, and south of the cities of Salem, Oregon; Yellowstone National Park; Minneapolis; and Bangor, Maine.

The Miller Planisphere
Large, Latitude 50 degrees north
As above.  This is the best model for the far northern United States (northernmost Washington to Michigan, plus northern Maine north of the New Hampshire border with Canada) and southern Canada.

Datalizer, 2002.  10½ inches in diameter, comes with plastic pouch.  New.
