Since May 14th of this year, we have been using UPS Ground Service as a more economical method of shipping raised relief maps. In the past, we used the US Postal Service, and fees even before their last rate increase were as much as 2½ times higher than they are now for comparable service.
Since UPS cannot deliver to a PO Box, we need a physical address for delivery at the lower rates. (In some cases, Alaska and Hawai'i deliveries are an exception in that the Postal Service rate may be cheaper than UPS. If you have a PO Box in Alaska or Hawai'i, you may provide it as well as the physical address.)
Shipping fees for items on this website are now weight- and destination-based. The farther you are from our shop here in the middle of Arizona and the heavier the packed weight, the higher the fee. Standard shipping fees for one or more of the larger (6.1 lb. shipping weight or higher) raised relief maps ranges from $8.50 for Arizona deliveries to $14.00 for East Coast (Maine to Florida) destinations.
Hawai'i urban areas on Oahu, and Alaskan urban areas in and around Fairbanks and Anchorage will require a $28.00 shipping fee per large relief map shipment. Remoter parts of Alaska and Hawai'i, even if in a small city, will require a $40.00 shipping fee. If shipping to remote areas of Alaska or Hawai'i, please order by phone or request an online invoice by email; the PayPal shopping cart fee calculation system is not able to distinguish between remote and other areas of Alaska and Hawai'i, and will not collect the correct fee.
While the shopping cart is programmed to collect the correct fees for most orders, if you order several of the small National Park maps (listed as having a shipping weight of 3.0 lbs.), the cart will collect too much. This is because the shipping weight includes packing, and adding extra maps to an order adds little extra weight and may even reduce packing costs. In these cases, we will refund excess shipping.
The cart will never collect too much for large raised relief maps, though, because the fee charged for them is the maximum rate for any relief map order. Whether you order one large raised relief map, two, three, or twenty, the shipping fee is the same—so the more maps you order, the less shipping you pay per map.
