The region is dominated by the Navajo Indian Reservation, with the northern portion of the Hopi Indian Reservation also shown. While the region has many inhabitants, most are in widely scattered rural housing, so there are only three named communities on the maps: Red Lake, Cow Springs, and Pinon. The only major highway through the area is US 160 and a section of state 98. The left quarter of the map is in Coconino County, the rest in Navajo County.Major physical features on the map include Kaibito Plateau, Red Lake Valley, Klethla Valley, Black Mesa, Begashibito Wash, Moenkopi Wash, Blue Canyon, Ha Ho No Geh Canyon, White Ruin Canyon, Big Mountain, Many Sheep Valley, Dinnebito Wash, Rocky Ridge, Third Mesa, Oraibi Wash, Wepo Wash, and Burnt Corn Valley.
