Printed on two sides, with the map on one side and information on the reverse.  The map employs elevation contours to show the form of the land.  Color tints show managing agency: Yellow for BLM, orange for Indian Reservation, green for Fish & Wildlife Service (National Wildlife Refuges), blue for state lands, purple for National Park Service, a red dotted pattern for Bureau of Reclamation, and untinted for private lands.  Shows rivers, streams, creeks, marshes, washes, springs, lakes and water tanks.  Township and section lines are marked.  Roads of all classes are depicted (but only US and state highways plus major BLM routes are numbered).  The East Mojave Heritage Trail and Historic Route 66 National Trails Highway are specially highlighted.  Shows major power lines, pipe lines, mine shafts, mines and and gravel pits; landing strips, railways and more.  (See sample below.)

Cities, towns, and localities on the map include Camino, Klinefelter, Needles, Topock, Yucca, and the northern part of Lake Havasu City.  Fort Mojave Indian Reservation, Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, and Chemehuevi Indian Reservation, Mojave National Preserve are all marked, as are the following BLM Wilderness Areas: Bigelow Chlla Garden Wilderness, Stepladder Mountains Wilderness, Chemehuevi Mountains Wilderness, Warm Springs Wilderness, and Wabayuma Peak Wilderness.  Major highways on the map are Interstate 40, US 95, and AZ state 95.

Major physical features shown include a part of Ward Valley, Homer Wash, Piute Wash, Dead Mountains, Sacramento Mountains, Chemehuevi Valley, Chemehuevi Mountains, Colorado River, Topock Marsh, Black Mountains, Mohave Mountains, Dutch Flat, and Sacramento Valley.

All of the area on the California side of the border is within San Bernardino County, all on the Arizona side is in Mohave County.

On the reverse side is information on the "California Desert", which despite this title, also includes some specific notes on areas from the Arizona side of the map.  Includes both general information on desert survival, regulations, and etiquette, and notes on specific points of interest.
