Detailed travel map, printed on two sides.  The northern island of Hokkaido and the northern part of the largest island of Honshu are on one side, with the reverse showing the west half of Honshu, and all of Shikoku and Kyushu.  (These major islands are not, however, labeled on the map.)  Insets show numerous smaller islands, including parts of the Okinawa island group.  Gridded at one degree intervals.

Color tints show relative elevation levels, and, offshore, the depths of the seas.  Readily distinguished are expressways, national highways, major roads, and secondary roads.  Also shows Japan Railway lines, Shinkansen (bullet trains), private railways, and ferry routes.  Other features represented include waterfalls, national parks, caves, mines, bridges, seaports, volcanoes, high towers, tourist sites, Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, hot springs, ski resorts, beaches, lighthouses, airports, and more.

Four inset maps show streets and important buildings of central Sapporo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo—each map featuring the area around the main railway stations.

A comprehensive index helps you locate cities and towns on the map.  The legend explains map symbols in English and Japanese (but a separate legend for the street detail maps is in English only).
