Idaho Maps & Atlases
Benchmark Maps Idaho Road & Recreation AtlasNew in 2005, the eighth in Benchmark's outstanding series of state atlases. As with others in the series, the atlas has two major sections. The largest consists of 62 pages of sectional "Landscape Maps," the name derived from the exceptional depiction of mountains, hills, and other landforms by means of intricately detailed shaded relief, which gives an appearance of three-dtimensions; color tints give you an idea of elevation levels. On top of this are printed the network of roadways, showing and clearly distinguishing everything from interstates and US highways down to state and county roads, local roads, and dirt forest roads. The maps are packed with information including the elevations of selected peaks and towns, names of physical and cultural features, campgrounds, picnic areas, boat ramps, mines, and much more.
The second major section is fifteen pages devoted to recreation. Here, there are seven more regional maps (at a smaller—less detailed—scale than the Landscape Maps) which are colored according to land management agency ownership—National Forests, BLM, National Park Service, etc. These use similar shaded relief as in the Landscape Maps section to depict the form of the land. On a page facing each map is a recreation guide keyed to the maps which list and give details about such features as state and national parks, forests and wildlife areas, boating and fishing, rafting, ski areas, historic sites, campgrounds, RV parks, and more. Climate charts are given for selected cities in each region.
There's also a smaller, "regional" section which features a two-page spread showing major US highways (excluding Alaska and Hawai'i), a two-page spread of northwestern US highways, and a two-page map of the whole state of Idaho. A fourth section shows the main roads of the Boise-Caldwell region. The atlas includes a detailed index as well.

GTR Topographic Recreational Map of Idaho Detailed travel map printed on two sides showing more than 1000 recreation sites, with 400 points of interest listed. The map is on one side, and includes interstates with exit numbers, highways and secondary roads, color shaded topography, campgrounds, rest areas, ski areas, lakes, National Forests and Wilderness Areas, and much more. The topography is shown by means of contours at 1000 foot intervals, and this is enhanced by color tints to emphasize the elevations. This color tinting in combination with the tints used for showing parks and forests can make things look a little busy, but despite that drawback, the publication packs a lot of information in a small area. An index helps you locate the cities, towns, and other places on the map, with populations listed. With a few exceptions, map detail stops at the state border. The reverse side is packed with information in the form of tables and lists on national parks, wildlife refuges, state parks, state wildlife areas, sportsman access sites, ski areas, mountain peaks, wilderness areas, recreation sites, points of interest, and more. There is also a climate date and mileage chart.
Scale, about 1:792,000 (1 inch = 12.5 miles). Size: About 27 x 39 inches. Folded. Paper.
