Globes

It is impossible to represent the spherical earth on a flat map without distorting the relative sizes and/or the shapes of the features of our planet. A globe is the only map of our world which is both equal area and proportional, and is an important tool for anyone who wants to understand the geography of our home planet.
If you order one of the globes on this page using the PayPal shopping cart and need it sent to remote portions of Alaska (almost everywhere except the Anchorage region or Fairbanks) or Hawai'i (all areas except urban addresses on O'ahu), you will need to pay an extra shipping fee. The shopping cart will not collect the correct rates. Call or email us for a quote on the fee.
We will not ship these globes out of the country: US shipments only.

Replogle Atlantis 12-inch globe (physical, blue ocean)
This is a physical globe, which means the details emphasize the physical features of the world (rather than human national territories), with colors somewhat like the natural colors of the terrain, and the mountains both above and below the sea represented. Although national boundaries are not emphasized, they are shown and the countries are named, as are also US states, Canadian provinces, and Australian states.
Shaded relief and actual raised relief help you find the mountains both by sight and by touch. Shows the oceans' currents, too.
Mounted on a metal base with a gold metal meridian ring with a "Gyro-matic" attachment that allows you to swing any portion of the globe into view. There is a rotating time zone disk at the top of the globe, by which you can calculate the approximate time of any place on earth relative to your own time zone. A small educational booklet about the globe is included. Stands about 16 inches high.

Replogle Livingston 12-inch illuminated globe (both physical & political)
This twelve-inch diameter globe is like two in one. On the outside, is a beautiful depiction of the physical world, with colors approximating those of the vegetation, icy regions, or barren lands on our planet. Undersea topography is revealed with shaded relief. Major currents in the oceans are also indicated.
When you click on the light, a second globe is revealed: On the inner surface, political boundaries are emphasized. In addition to national boundaries, US states, Canadian provinces, and Australian states are individually distinguished. The political features are best seen when you have the illuminated globe turned on in a darkened room.
Mounted on a hardwood base, with die-cast metal semi-meridian. An informational booklet on using the globe is provided, plus instructions on how to change the light bulb inside should it burn out.
Stands about 15 inches high.

Replogle The Edinburgh 16-inch floor globe (political, blue ocean)
If you want an excellent quality large globe but don't want to pay the extra price for the stand, this is a great choice. This 16-inch diameter globe is the same as used in much more expensive models; the difference in price is that you are not paying for "furniture"—the fancier wood or metal mountings which can easily triple the price.
The Edinburgh is mounted on a broad simple but sturdy metal stand, attached to a piece of turned wood, attached to the gyromatic mounting. The latter allows you to turn the globe so that any area can be placed at the top for easier viewing, while enabling it to be rotated along its axis. All together, the globe stands 38 inches tall. But suppose you rearrange your home or office and no longer have space for a floor globe? No problem! You can easily remove the wood support and convert it into a desk globe!
This is a political globe—it emphasizes the boundaries of nations rather than physical features. But mountains are shown in shaded relief, and what's more, in raised relief. You can feel the mountains as well as see them!
