Printed on one side only, the map employs elevation contours to show the form of the land.  A solid green tint shows the extent of woodlands.  Other color tints show strip mines and sandy areas.  Shows rivers, streams, creeks, washes, springs, and wells.  Township and section lines are marked.  Roads of all classes are depicted (but only US and state highways are numbered).  Shows major power lines, corrals, and gravel pits; windmills, campgrounds and more.  (See sample below.)

The entire region is within the Navajo Indian Reservation, with about a square mile of Canyon de Chelly National Monument at upper right.  Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site is in the center of the map.  Communities and towns on the map include Tsintaa Yiti Ii, Steamboat Canyon, Greasewood, Sunrise Springs, Cornfields, Nazlini, Ganado, Klagetoh, Sawmill, Fort Defiance, Window Rock, and Saint Michaels&mdashall in Arizona; and Navajo and Tse Bonito in New Mexico.  Most of the area is within Apache County, the lower left corner of the map is in Navajo County; the easternmost strip of the map is in McKinley County, New Mexico.  The major roads on the map are state 264, and US 191/state 63.

Major physical features on the map are Balakai Mesa, Steamboat Wash, Pueblo Colorado Wash, Beautiful Valley, Snake Flat, Ganado Mesa, Ganado Lake, Wide Ruin Wash, Bear Canyon, Defiance Plateau, Blue Canyon, Black Creek Valley, Red Valley, Red Lake, and Chuska Mountains.

Scale, 1:100,000 (1 inch = about 1.6 miles).  Contour interval = 50 meters.  Size: about 43 x 23½ inches.  Folded.  Paper.
