Washington, DC, the nation's capital
MapArt Washington DC: detailed city plan inside the Beltway This detailed street map by MapArt, printed on two sides, is easier to read than your typical comprehensive city map. On MapArt street maps, the streets are drawn not merely as thin lines, but with substance: parallel lines accented by color tints which make them easier to see. And although the names of streets on large city maps must be in small type, MapArt's are not quite so tiny as most others I've seen. (See sample at right.)On one side is the main map, which shows the central and western parts of the "Capitol City," and includes, as the title says, all other streets within the "Beltway" (Interstate 495), and slightly beyond. This side also includes an inset showing a detailed enlargement of central DC, including the National Mall, with its numerous museums and other public buildings of particular interest to the visitor. Another inset shows the main highways of the entire region at small scale.
On the reverse is the eastern third of the city and adjacent suburbs, also within the Beltway. The remainder of this side is devoted to the comprehensive index which enables you to find any particular street among the thousands shown.
Scale, 1:31,250 (1 inch = about 1/2 mile). Size: about 27 x 39½ inches. Folded. Paper.

See sample above right. This map does not show the entire city, however. On the reverse are several other maps including a regional map showing the main roads of the entire DC area, a schematic map showing the Metro rapid transit system, detail maps of both Washington Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National airports, and a street map of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The space in between is packed with information on what to see and how to see it. A street index is also supplied.
