GTR Mapping Colorado Geologic Highway Map
Produced with the cooperation of the Colorado Geological Survey, this is a two-sided publication.  On one side is the colorful geologic map, which also shows roads, towns, and county boundaries for ease in locating formations of interest.  Supplementing the map is a diagrammatic section of the state following Interstate 70.  A general description of formations is supplied, along with the geologic explanation of the rocks mapped.

On the reverse side is a "shaded elevation" map of the full state, also showing in detail the drainage system.  This map is basically a contour map with the major elevation levels emphasized with color tints.  (It does not show shaded relief, as one might infer from the publisher's use of the word "shaded".)  It shows county boundaries, important cities and towns, the highest mountain peaks, mining districts, and selected dinosaur fossil localities.  Articles on geologic history and landscapes, water resources, energy and mineral resources, and rock collecting and prospecting are also provided, as well as a list of selected references.

Scale, 1:1,000,000 (1 inch = about 16 miles).  Size: about 37 x 24 inches.  Folded.  Paper.
Published by GTR Mapping, 2003, 2006 edition.  New.

USGS, Ogden Tweto, compiler,  Geologic Map of Colorado
Produced in cooperation with the Geologic Survey of Colorado, this is a standard geologic map, printed on one side only, with distinct colors representing the various ages and types of rock across the state, also showing faultlines, anticlines, synclines, and other features of importance.  The base map is a topographic contour map which plots land lines, roads, railroads, waterways, cites and towns, and other landmark features.  Elevation contours show the height of the land.

The map comes with a smaller explanation sheet which is designed to be attached to the side of the main map.  It gives the key to symbols and includes an extensive bilbliography of sources used to compile the map.  It is also printed on one side only.

Scale, 1:500,000 (1 inch = about 7.9 miles).  Contour interval = 500 feet.  Size of map sheet: about 52 x 43 inches; size of explanatory sheet: about 23 x 43 inches.  Rolled.  Paper.
