Clifton, Arizona - New Mexico 1:100,000 scale topo map

USGS Clifton, Arizona-New Mexico metric topographic series
Printed on one side only, the map employs elevation contours to show the form of the land.  A solid green tint shows the extent of woodlands.  A brown  tint shows open pit mines and tailings.  Shows rivers, streams, creeks, washes, springs, lakes and tanks (stock ponds).  Township and section lines are marked.  Roads of all classes are depicted (but only US and state highways are numbered).  Shows major power lines, mine shafts, mines and quarries, and gravel pits; water tanks and more.  (See sample below.)

The only communities or towns on the map, besides Clifton, are Point of Pines, Fort Thomas, Plantsite, Morenci, Metcalf, Oroville, and Stargo.  The only major highways in the region are US 666 (winding north-south to the right of center of the map), US 70 (in the lower left corner), and state 78 (in the lower right corner).  The left side of the map is dominated by the San Carlos Indian Reservation, the right side by Apache National Forest.  About five square miles of Fort Apache Indian Reservation is also mapped.  On the New Mexican side of the border is a strip of Gila National Forest.

Important physical features depicted include Natanes Plateau, Natanes Mountains, Nantac Rim, Big Prairie, Ash Flat, Gila Peak and Mountains, Eagle Creek, San Francisco River, Blue River, and Antelope Mesa.

Large parts of Graham and Greenlee counties, and a small piece of Apache County, are in the Arizona side of the map.  The eastern 1¾ inch wide strip that is shown of New Mexico are in Catron and Grant counties.

Scale, 1:100,000 (1 inch = about 1.6 miles).  Contour interval = 50 meters.  Size: about 43 x 23½ inches.  Folded.  Paper.
