Communities on the map include, Many Farms, Chinle, Lukachukai, Tsaile, Wheatfields, and Upper Wheatfields. The major highway through the region is US 191 / state 63. Canyon de Chelly and the other canyons within the Canyon de Chelly National Monument are shown on the map, though perhaps two square miles of the Monument's southernmost edge are not on this map.Prominent physical features covered include Wind Rock Valley, Polacca Wash, Toadindaaska Mesa, Balakai Mesa, Carson Mesa, Chinle Valley, Many Farms Lake, Beautiful Valley, Chuska Mountains, Tunitcha Mountains, Wheatfields Creek and Lake, Canyon de Chelly, and Three Turkey Canyon.
Most of the map is within Apache County, Arizona; the far right one-and-a-half inch strip of the map is in New Mexico, almost all of the in San Juan County (less than a half square mile in the lower right is in McKinley County).
