Arizona City Maps & Atlases
GM Johnson Flagstaff, Sedona, Grand Canyon, City Street Map
It took a Canadian company to publish the best street map of Flagstaff! This map, printed on two sides, shows more of Flagstaff's important outlying subdivisions than any other commercially-available street map I know of. It also shows street detail of other cities, towns, and subdivisions of Coconino County, including Sedona, Blue Ridge, Forest Lake Estates, Fredonia, Grand Canyon Village, Kachina Village, Mountainaire, Mormon Lake, Munds Park, Page, Tuba City, Williams, and many rural areas in between. (This is the first time I've seen Tuba City depicted on any single-sheet commercial map.)There is also a complete map of Coconino County (Arizona's largest county, and the second largest in the country). The maps show typical street map details, such as schools, points of interest, hospitals, libraries, city halls, fire stations, block numbers, parks, golf courses, airports, shoppng centers, universities, cemeteries, and more. I did a spot check of some Flagstaff and Grand Canyon streets commonly mislabeled on other maps and found them correct on this map. (Though this latest edition doesn't show the recent relocation of Huntington Avenue and the new Fourth Street Overpass.)
The only weakness of this map, I think, is that it depicts too many roads in rural areas: On the county map, they seem to have included every dirt road found on USGS topo maps, including unnamed, obscure, and/or impassable ones, and the scale is not large enough for this to be useful. The extra lines make the map more difficult to read rather than adding value.
The named roads can be located by using the comprehensive index included.
Scale of street maps: about 1:36,200 (1 inch = about 0.57 mile). Scale of county map: about 1:352,000 (1 inch = about 5.6 miles). Size: about 39 x 27 inches. Folded. Paper.

Rand McNally Mesa/Tempe, Arizona: local street detail Comprehensive street maps of Mesa, Tempe, Apache Junction, and most of Gilbert and Chandler, and also Sun Lakes, printed on two sides. Curiously, there are quite a few streets in subdivisions scattered across the map which are not labeled; new developments? Private streets not required to share names with city street databases? Rand McNally offers no explanation, but I'd estimate that as many as 5% of the streets of the thousands shown are unlabeled. The map does show block numbers, parks, golf courses, cemetaries, regional shopping centers, hospitals, public schools, and more.An inset shows the main roads of the Phoenix-Mesa region. A comprehensive index enables you to locate the streets named on the main map.
Scale, about 1:34,850 (1 inch = about 0.55 mile). Size: about 40 x 28 inches. Folded. Paper.

Wide World of Maps Rim Country & White Mountains Communities Atlas Plus Recreation GuideNew atlas covering the region above and below the Mogollon Rim of east-central Arizona, and also the White Mountain region. Includes 24 regional maps that show paved and dirt roads, land lines, lakes, creeks, major powerlines, trailheads, and more. Color tints distinguish Forest Service lands from other property. Elevation contours give an idea of the form of the land—but the contours are not marked with elevations, so have limited usefulness.
A second section gives street details of 32 communities, including Alpine, Concho, Eager, Greer, Heber, Kohls Ranch, Lakeside, Inden, McNary, Nutrioso, Overgaard, Payson, Pine, Pinetop, Show Low, Snowflake, Springerville, St. Johns, Strawberry, Young, Whiteriver, and more. Streets and roads of both sections are fully indexed.
Three pages of recreational information is included, plus phone numbers of important fire, police, and other governmental contacts, and a list of locations of airports, colleges and schools, golf courses, medical facilities, and parks.
The maps are printed in many easy-to-read colors, and in my judgment, the entire atlas is very well made.

GM Johnson, Prescott, Verde Valley, Yavapai County City Street Map Comprehensive road and street map printed on two sides, covers more communities in Yavapai County than any other single-sheet map we know of. Besides Prescott, it includes Ash Fork, Bagdad, Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Chino Valley, Clarkdake, Congress, Cordes Junction, Cottonwood, Jerome, Lake Montezuma, Mayer, Middle Verde, Oak Creek, Paulden, Peeples Valley, Prescott Valley, Seligman, Spring Valley, Verde Valley, Walker, Wilhoit, Yarnell, and adjacent subdivisions. The biggest map on the sheet is of the Prescott and Prescott Valley region, with the next biggest covering the Verde Valley (on the reverse). Those towns not in these two regions are shown in insets at the same scale as the main maps. There is also an inset map covering the main roads of the entire county. An extensive index enables you to locate the streets on the maps. The major freeways, highways, arterials, and local streets are clearly distinguished, but it is often difficult to tell the lines representing rivers and creeks from those which represent "other" roads (probably dirt roads). But this is the only significant drawback of the map I see. It has all of the other standard features of good street maps, including the location of schools, hospitals, post offices, fire and police stations, points of interest, block numbers, parks, golf courses, airports, shopping centers, universities, cemeteries, and more.
Scale of street maps, about 1:36,115 (1 inch = about 0.57 mile). Size: about 39½ x 27 inches. Folded. Paper.

Bordering unincorporated areas of Maricopa County, plus adjacent streets of Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Mesa, and Tempe are also depicted. Central Scottsdale (which is actually now in the extreme south part of the town as it has grown) is shown in a larger scale inset. On the reverse side is a continuation of the main map, showing most of the northern region of the city. It also includes all of the city of Carefree. An additional map is an extension eastward from the main map, covering the city of Fountain Hills. A more general map of the entire Phoenix-Scottsdale region is included on this side, and shows the major avenues and freeways.
The maps clearly distinguish major classes of highways and streets. Block numbers are included, and the maps also locate airports, major buildings, parks, golf courses, hospitals, cemeteries, shopping centers, scholls, and more.
A comprehensive index is divided between both sides, and helps you locate the couple of thousand streets on the map. Like other recently made city streets, a small but significant number of the streets shown are not labelled.

Wide World of Maps Yavapai/Coconino Counties Street and Road Atlas 2008 EditionThis updated and expanded edition has easy to read maps, with more coverage of rural subdivisions than prior editions. Emphasis is on developed areas—do not expect maps of remote, unpopulated areas of each county (while the maps show recreation areas if they are in the vicinity of subdivisions, this is not an atlas that is of much use for hikers, campers, and hunters). The developed areas that are shown not only depict complete street details that you would expect from a city or town map, but also show the township and section lines. The streets of each county are fully indexed.
For Coconino County the atlas shows complete street coverage for the cities, towns, and communities of Bellemont, Blue Ridge, Doney Park, Fernwood, Flagstaff, Forest Lakes, Fort Valley, Fredonia, Grand Canyon Village, Greenehaven, Kachina Village, Little Horse Park, Moenkopi, Mormon Lake Village, Mountainaire, Munds Park, Page, Parks, Red Lake, Sedona, Timberline, Tuba City, Wahweap, and Williams. There is also a map of the Northern Arizona University campus.
For Yavapai County the atlas shows Ash Fork, Bagdad, Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Chino Valley, Clarkdale, Congress, Cordes Junction, Cordes Lakes, Cornville, Crown King, Date Creek, Dewey-Humboldt, Diamond Valley, Fort Rock, Granite Dells, Groom Creek, Highland Pines, Hillside, Hootenanny Holler, Jerome, Kayfour, Kirkland, Lake Montezuma, Lynx Lake, McGuireville, Mayer, Page Springs, Paulden, Peeples Valley, Poland Junction, Ponderosa Park, Potato Patch, Prescott, Prescott Country Club, Prescott Lakes, Prescott Valley, Ponderosa Park, Red Rock, Sedona, Seligman, Skull Valley, Spring Valley, Talking Rock Ranch, Walker, Verde Village, Village of Oak Creek, Wilhoit, Yarnell, and Yavapai Hills. There is an easier-to-read enlargement of downtown Prescott, too.
Scale of detail map pages, about 1:36,115 (1 inch = about 0.57 mile); scale of rural map pages, about 1:72,860 (1 inch = about 1.15 miles).
