Regional Raised Relief Maps ![]() Hubbard Scientific Winchester, Kentucky regional raised relief map This three-dimensional vinyl map shows a section of central Kentucky, an area rippled by numerous low hills and etched by winding rivers and a network of creeks. Fort Knox is in the upper left corner, somerset is near the bottom to the right of center, the title city of Winchester on the border of the upper right corner (and not even entirely on the map), while the southern end of the largest city, Lexington, is in the top right quarter. Green River Lake is in the lower third, to the left of center.
Maps in this series show elevation contours, with a green tint showing the extent of woodlands. Water features such as lakes, ponds, creeks, marshes, canals, and shorelines (where present) are indicated in detail. Shows roads and highways of all classes, and sometimes trails. Railroads are also shown. National, state, provincial, and county boundaries are demarcated, as are other boundaries such as parks and wildlife refuges. Other features shown in this series are mines, airstrips and airports, isolated landmark buildings, lookout towers, and more. The maps are lined with the UTM grid at 1000 meter intervals.
Few of the maps in this series are recently published. The manufacturer, Hubbard Scientific, uses data from the US Geological Survey, but USGS rarely updates any of the maps in this series; most use data 20 to 40 years old. You get them for the depiction of the topography, which rarely changes, not for current roads and city boundaries. In fact, many of them have an added appeal for their historical interest. See below for date of the map described on this page.
