USGS United States Physical Landform Wall Maps

We do not ship rolled maps outside of the USA, and ship other items on this website to the USA or Canada only.

Rolled maps such as those on this page must be ordered separately from other kinds of items.  They need to be packaged apart from other kinds of items and thus require a separate shipping fee.
USGS The Geographic Face of the Nation: Elevation
It's an art print!  It's a tool for learning physical geography!  It's the product of the digital mapping revolution, for this map of the 48 conterminous states was created with the US Geological Survey's computerized National Elevation Dataset.  Color tints represent elevations, and shaded relief gives the illusion of a three-dimensional model.  State borders are oh so lightly marked.  And that's all.

This map shows no cities or towns, no roads, no railroads, no lakes or rivers, and has no place names, so it has limited reference value.  But the detail is so fascinatingly fine that map lovers will enjoy gazing at it for hours, days, weeks!  The map is all the more striking by the use of the dark blue borderless background.

Scale, 1:4,000,000 (1 inch = about 63 miles).  Size: about 56 x 36 inches.  Rolled.  Heavy glossy paper.

USGS, Gail P. Thelin & Richard J. Pike, Landforms of the Conterminous United States: A Digital Shaded-Relief Portrayal
A striking digitally-produced portrayal of the landforms of the 48 adjacent US states in black and shades of gray.  Like the preceding map, it has little reference value in itself, but is wonderfully suited as a bold art print, or as a base map for serious geographical studies.

Like the prior map described, this map shows no cities or towns, no roads, no railroads, no lakes or rivers, and has no place names, and doesn't even have the state boundaries marked at all.  But like a black and white photograph, the absence of color makes the textural details of the physical landscape so much more evident.  A sixteen page photo-copied text is included with the map, and describes the digital techniques used to construct the map and the implications of the digital mapping revolution.  The text also includes commentary on some of the major landforms represented, plus a reference list.

Scale, 1:3,500,000 (1 inch = about 55 miles).  Size: about 54 x 35½ inches.  Rolled.  Heavy glossy paper.

USGS, United States Physical Features (National Atlas series) wall map
If you need labels for your landforms, this map will do it, when the two above won't!  Unlike the other two, it also shows Alaska, Hawai'i, and even Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands—all at the same scale.  Exquisitely detailed shaded relief generated from the National Elevation Dataset shows the form of terrain.

The map labels numerous features such as mountains, hills, islands, points, valleys, plateaus, deserts, lakes, rivers, and more.  Many of these are never labeled on standard US wall maps, which instead use the space for names of states, cities, and towns.  Although this map shows state boundaries, no state names are provided, and no cities are included.  Many elevations of high points are indicated, with the high point of each state emphasized in bold italic type.  A dashed line shows divides between major ocean watersheds.  Color tints in the ocean show major depth levels.

The main parts of the map are gridded with latitude and longitude lines at 5 degree intervals.  The Hawai'i and Puerto Rico insets are marked at 1 degree intervals.  Minimal detail is included for areas outside the US, though rivers are shown and provincial and estado boundaries and names are included for Canada and Mexico.

An inset shows the country at smaller scale, an elevation map showing primary elevation ranges by means of color tints.  Another inset is a global view which shows Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico in proper geographical relationship.

Scale, 1:5,000,000 (1 inch = about 79 miles).  Size: about 41 x 46 inches.  Rolled.  Glossy paper.
