Printed on one side only, the map employs elevation contours to show the form of the land.  Different color tints show land management agency: Green for National Forest (with darker green showing designated wilderness areas), yellow for BLM, violet for National Park Service, blue for State Lands, and pink for "Bankhead-Jones Land Use Land" (whatever that is!).  Private lands are untinted.  Shows rivers, streams, creeks, washes, springs, and lakes.  Township and section lines are marked.  Roads of all classes are depicted (with US and state highways and Forest Service roads numbered).  Shows major power lines, landing strips, recreation sites, and more.  (See sample below.)

Towns and communities marked include Paragonah, Parowan, Summit, Duck Creek Village, Panguitch, Hatch, Tropic, and Cannonville.  Much of the area is within Dixie National Forest.  The most famous place on the map is Bryce Canyon National Park, of which the northern portion is shown.  Cedar Breaks National Monument and the adjacent Ashdown Gorge Wilderness are shown in their entirety.  A small section of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument is also marked.  Major highways are Interstate 15, US 89, state 12, state 14, state 20, state 22, state 63, and state 143.  The region covered includes parts of Iron, Garfield, and Kane counties.

Major physical features include Red Hills, Parowan Valley, Little Salt Lake, Hurricane Cliffs, Cedar Canyon, Markagunt Plateau, Sevier River, Sunset Cliffs, Paunsaugunt Plateau, Pink Cliffs, Johns Valley, Tropic Valley and East Valley.
