This map has a coated surface which makes even this non-laminated version hard to photograph, since it reflects the light. Be assured that the light areas in the middle are artifacts of photography, and are not on the map. Sample showing southern Oregon, northern California, and adjacent Nevada.	Michelin USA Political Wall Map Large, detailed wall map shows states flags and facts, too. Each state is given a distinct color—although adjacent states are sometimes tinted in variations of the same color, with more northerly states tending to be cooler greens and greenish-browns, and the more southern ones given warmer red, pinkish, yellow, and tan hues. In poor lighting, this can make the state boundaries harder to distinguish, but it also makes them look less patchy and harlequin-like than most other political maps. The map shows numerous cities and towns and more primary and local roads than other maps of its size. Only interstates, however, are numbered. Shaded relief is used to show the location of mountains, but the map is otherwise poor for physical geography: Only four mountains ranges in the country are labeled, and only a few selected peaks are labeled (and these not necessarily the highest). Similarly, though numerous lakes and rivers are shown, only nine lakes and ten rivers (by my count) are labeled. About the only other features labeled on the map are Indian Reservations. The map does not show National Parks and Monuments. It is apparent that the designers did not want to clutter the map with more detail than perhaps some users would want. As is typical, Alaska and Hawaii are shown in insets; another inset shows the time zones. The main map is gridded with lines of latitude and longitude at 2 degree intervals. For many users, the best thing about this map are the flags: The US flag and the flags of each state are displayed across the top and the bottom of the map. Next to each flag is the state name, nickname, and Postal Service abbreviation, the population, surface area (in square miles and square kilometers), date of admission to the union, the state capital, and a grid key to help you locate the state on the map. Michelin USA Roads Wall Map This map differs from the other US wall maps we sell in that 1) it is a better road map than any of the other wall maps, it shows more minor roads with numbering, and with distances between major points in miles and often also in kilometers; 2) it does not emphasize the distinction of the states with separate colors for each, though the boundaries are clear enough when you look for them; 3) it uses three different color tints to distinguish major elevation levels. In addition, it shows the US and state flags across the top. Besides detailed road, city, and town coverage, the map also shows National Parks and Monuments, and Indian Reservations. A subtle green pattern shows the extent of National Forests (though they are not labeled). Alaska and Hawaii are shown in insets; another inset shows the time zones.
